Drivers and subway passengers will be inconvenienced by the resulting transit diversions. Police closed three lanes of the famed boulevard, also known as Sixth Avenue, between 49th and 59th streets at midnight so workers could lay the carpet, and shut the other three lanes at 11 a.m. for the procession.
